2022 Business Scheduling
Dear Friends,
I’m emailing you with an update on the scheduling of 2022 business tax returns.
I’m faced with a problem and there’s no easy solution.
There are many business clients still waiting for their 2021 tax returns and I feel a strong obligation to complete them before I start scheduling the 2022 tax returns.
I need you to know I have given this a lot of thought and I feel the proper course of action is to not schedule 2022 tax appointments until I have completed those on the 2021 wait list.
To begin 2022 tax returns would not be fair to anyone--those on the 2021 wait list, those scheduling an appointment when I know getting your return done on your appointment date is not likely, nor to me as I can’t continue on this cycle.
Those of you waiting for me to call and say it is time to do your 2021 return will be very happy with this decision. I would also like to say that since you are still waiting, I will do your 2021 and 2022 returns at the same time.
All bookkeeping and payroll services will continue uninterrupted, it is only the business tax returns that are affected by this decision.
When will I open for 2022 tax returns? The answer is, I truly cannot predict how long it will take to get caught up. Every return is unique and every year is different.
What should you do? While you wait, you should make sure your books are as clean as possible. If you do not want to wait then you should begin to look for another preparer. Companies with a December 31st year end are due September 15th and the penalty for not filing on time is $205 per month for up to 12 months. This penalty can be abated under certain circumstances.
What will I be doing? I will continue to work very hard and to also keep searching for an additional employee to assist me with corporate returns. Should you know of anyone with tax preparation experience, please let me know. As always, I will file all business extension forms on March 15, 2023 and all individual extension forms on April 15, 2023.
If you have any ideas that may help, by all means give me a call so we can discuss them.
